Committee
Steve Kern
Will lead our swim workouts. Steve has completed two Ironmans, two Ironman 70.3 races and Escape From Alcatraz this year. He has been on the Disney Tri Team for 5 years and has swam for the majority of his life.
Stephanie Triquart
Will be our Treasurer. Stephanie joined the Disney Tri-team in 2005 and has participated in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon each year since. She has also completed 5 marathons, numerous half marathons, a ½ Ironman distance race and Ironman Arizona on November 22, 2009.
Gerald Turpin
Will lead some of our bike rides and brick workouts. During nearly ten years in the sport, he has competed in 4 Iron-distance triathlons along with multiple 70.3 Ironmans, Olympic and sprint-distance races. He was a swimmer in high school, but didn’t begin running or cycling until he joined the Army. He is a huge fan of all outdoor activities (backpacking, climbing, surfing, mountain biking, etc.) and has recently fallen in love with trail running and completed his first off-road ultramarathon in 2008.
Robert Laurita
Will lead the administrative tasks of the team including working with the supportive folks at Disney Worldwide Outreach, Disney World (Frank Blum) and Disneyland (Jason Alexander). He will also continue to work with MESP (producers of the Nautica Malibu Tri) and the other heads of the tri teams at other corporations/entertainment studios. Robert has competed in 3 half-marathons, one Ironman 70.3 race and will do his second 70.3 race this June in Hawaii with Team Disney. He also rode the AIDS LifeCycle ride from San Francisco to LA in June 2009.
Michael "MAC" Connolly
This is MAC’s 4th year with the Tri Team. His triathlon journey started with playing in the surf all summer long growing up, followed by 4 years of Cross Country and Track in High School, and finally with collegiate cycling at UCLA where he was a volunteer coach and Western Conference official. MAC was convinced to attempt triathlon in 1988 by friends at UCLA, and is back enjoying the sport again with the Disney Tri Team. He has completed triathlons up to and including Ironman, the Dublin Marathon (1 was enough), has done a handful of Half Marathons, and more 10Ks/5Ks than he can remember. MAC will focus on the speed and interval run workouts.
Heather Henry-Parker
2010 will be Heather’s 4th year on the Disney Tri Team. She has completed three Nautica Malibu Triathlons, an Olympic triathlon, a full marathon, four half-marathons, one aquathlon, and a myriad of 5ks and 10ks. Heather grew up competing in swimming and dance. She was on the UNCW dance team in college. She started running when Leah put together her first run group in 2006 and has been an addict ever since.
Stuart Smith
Stuart is the long lost-grandson to the fifth Beatle. He is also a descendant of the famous House of Stewart – an important European royal house. The Stuarts first became monarchs of the Kingdom of Scotland during the late 14th century. In total, nine Stuart monarchs ruled just Scotland from 1371 until 1603. During the reign of the Stuarts, Scotland developed from a relatively poor and feudal country into a prosperous, fairly modern and centralized state. They ruled during a time in European history of transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. None of them necessarily have any running experience per se.
